Homes & Studios

Homes & Studios
For many years, Cy Twombly lived a secluded life. It is all the more surprising that he allowed certain photographers to document his unique way of living and working that fused art and daily life, furniture and sculpture to an inseparable blend. Starting with early pictures his friend Robert Rauschenberg took in their shared New York Studio up to Sally Mann’s late Lexington photographs, it is a prominent line-up of photographers to which Twombly opened his doors: Horst P. Horst, Bruce Weber, François Halard, David Seidner, Deborah Turbeville, Tacita Dean, Alistair Thain, Ugo Mulas, and many more were unable to resist the appeal of the man, his work, and his sophisticated life setting. On the other hand, the artist was an excellent photographer himself, continuously accompanying his living environment and his work’s progress with his camera.
Cy Twombly: Homes & Studios assembles the most beautiful pictures by the artist and the photographers who visited him in his studios and homes in New York, Rome, Bassano in Teverina, Gaeta, and Lexington.
